Cool to see YT pushing forward some work from some New York indies!

Now the interesting thing here is how one clip can inspire another clip, how one story can arch the trajectory of another story and how one personality learns to become a YT personality.  Take our friend Laina who parodied her Bieber Fever for a contest.  Of course, JB reached his star climbing the YT ladder and here is Laina, who parodied him in the first place and is now a YT personality herself. 

Which brings us to the question: will the featured video actually lead to such a story?  I hope not, but boy, would life imitating art be a hoot as long as it didn't happen in my living room!

Now I don't usually post about prefab homes - but as I've been doing some planning for the future been looking into the likes of Dwell as well as speaking with my friend Chris Knapp.

Would love it when we begin to think more about how we use our technology and networks.  Server farms of the major digital brands make North Carolina their home, just as most American pork comes from the same state.  Of course, concentrating this type of technology in one state, even with backup redundancy across other locations is tricky.  Of course its easier to centralize storage into one location - think the Paris syndrome - but is it the best way?  Is it the only way?  Of Facebook, Apple, etc criteria of finding the perfect location for a data center, being green, but like really green, isn't one of them.

Why can't we think in terms of different solutions for different population centers?  Urban areas should have Relay Boxes, such as those bizarre green mailboxes one sees in the States.  It actually makes sense.  Have a micro-center, which acts as a high-speed relay center for that micro-zone.  Alternatively, why don't we begin to re-imagine what server technology looks like and how it operates.  Similar to a rain-fall roof, which reclaims rainfall and uses it for certain type of home/built water use.  Additionally, the entire hard-drive and data portion can be rethought.  Think of windmills - the spinning disks capture energy that self powers them.  We've come a long way with Social as a means - we have a long way to instill technology back into the Social process that in fact we can eat at a green table.

I don't buy mobiles on contract.  Haven't since my first and only Android, the G1.  There are plenty of reasons not to love the iPhone ecosystem, and of course that rock it :: automatic push updates from the hardware/software creator whenever it is ready - no carrier to get in the way nor hardware maker  which of course is what happens everyday with Android.

But here's the interesting thing.  Most contracts to the carrier are 24 months.  But MS is now supporting their phones for 18 months.  Really, if a locked phone is locked to the grey area between carrier and manufacturer, they should be 100% synced.

An inspiration to all those who create digital for physical exhibts

A few weeks ago I was asked to work on a digital and mobile strategy for a physical event/curatorial exhibit.  In the end, there wasn't time for mobile build and testing but we certainly would have enjoyed learning about the fine work from the curators below as digital in physical always needs to extend and not only restate on a screen for screen's sake.

Sean Penn and Robert Duvall could have reprised their roles in this update to Colors.  From the NY Times, "Google on Tuesday acknowledged to state officials that it had violated people’s privacy during its Street View mapping project when it casually scooped up passwords, e-mail and other personal information from unsuspecting computer users."

And from the user comments, "I hate what Google did, but I don't see how it is illegal. The intercepted data were being broadcast on peoples' wireless networks unencrypted..."

So, first off, 1) no biggie, or  I'm going back to Ask Jeeves and 2) either you believe in open access to your network and you make it open OR lock that sucker up!

In winter, life of homeless people becomes tougher than ever. It’s cold, terribly cold, and we can’t even imagine how it feels to live on the streets when the temperature goes below zero. Well, in Germany no-profit organization fiftyfifty has actually recreated that nasty experience transforming a warm and cozy movie theater in a freezing environment, just like the one thousands of homeless people experience everyday. Experience marketing gets aggressive when it comes to charity support. I like it. I like the “in your face” attitude. What I don’t like, on the other end, is that they asked people to donate via QR code. I’m really curious on the conversion rate. How many people had a QR code reader on their phones? I bet all of them had a few spare Euros in their pockets, would have been easier. Faster. And cheaper.

Great ideas don’t always require the digital spin.

Construction looms, people climb, while others fall back down when their outside isn't finished and their inside is waiting for meditation and contemplation.

For those in the know, Caceres, Spain is home to Europe's best ornithology.  I guess when I was thinking about this post, I remember all of the storks laying low on the rooftops whereas in Dubai it is the Great Cranes.
